An 18-year-old woman from Bristol has been given a prestigious King's Trust Award.

Sahara Pring's early years were marked by a turbulent home life and mental health challenges, which impacted her schooling and ultimately led to her leaving secondary school at 14.

Without qualifications and struggling with confidence and motivation, Sahara turned to The King’s Trust for support.

Through their 'Get into Security' programme, she gained essential qualifications in English and Maths and successfully completed training to become a fully licensed Security Industry Authority Door Supervisor.

Reflecting on her journey, Sahara shared, “Before joining The King’s Trust, I was still struggling deeply with my confidence, motivation, and belief in myself.

"I had spent so long in survival mode that I couldn’t imagine having a future or achieving anything meaningful. However, through working with The Trust, I began to see change.”

Sahara's inspiration to work in the security industry stemmed from personal experiences, including a pivotal moment when a friend was stabbed.

She realised she wanted a career that involved protecting and keeping people safe.

“I felt like I didn’t have anyone fighting my corner. I wasn’t looking after myself and turned to anti-social behaviour and drinking to cope with my emotions,” Sahara said.

Expressing her gratitude for winning the King's Trust Award, Sahara said: “Thank you to The King’s Trust, and to every charity, organisation, and individual who chooses to show up for young people like me.

"Thank you for giving your time, your patience, and your beliefs to create a safe, grounded space where we are seen, heard, and valued.

"For many of us, this support is not just help — it is hope. You helped me find strength when I felt broken, confidence when I doubted myself, and a future when I couldn’t see one.”

Sahara’s dream now is to progress further in the security industry, aiming to become a supervisor and mentor for others.

The King's Trust Celebration event honours the achievements of young people supported by The King’s Trust in the UK and around the globe, showcasing their courage, creativity, and potential.
