Landmark station mural in Bristol restored to original glory

A landmark mural at Stapleton Road station in Bristol has been restored.
The restoration was celebrated at an unveiling ceremony attended by Kerry McCarthy MP and other community figures, alongside volunteers and industry partners who contributed to the project.
Bristol-based artist Valeriia Proskurina, led the restoration, working closely with the original creator Bill Guilding and dedicating four intensive weeks to bring the 25-metre-long mural to life.
Created in 1999, the mural has been a notable feature at Stapleton Road station symbolising Easton's rich heritage and diversity, portraying prominent figures including WG Grace and Dr Paul Stephenson.
Ben Scott, GWR Station Manager for Stapleton Road, said: “The mural has been a valued part of Stapleton Road station for decades, celebrating the people, heritage and diversity of the Easton and Bristol community.
“It's fantastic to see it restored with such care and attention to detail, thanks to the dedication of Valeriia, the support of Severnside Community Rail Partnership, Network Rail Great Western Route, and the many volunteers who gave their time to make this happen.
The project involved volunteers who aided in cleaning and preparing the panels, with the restoration funded by GWR's Customer and Community Improvement Fund.
Manager for Severnside Community Rail Partnership, Heather Cullimore, said: “This mural has been an important part of the Stapleton Road community since 1999, reflecting the people, stories and diversity that make Easton and Bristol so special.
The restored mural is part of the Severnside Community Rail Partnership’s Rail Art Trail, which highlights the creativity and history of communities across the region.
