Police responding to reports of attempted motorbike thefts in Bristol have arrested a man.

The police helicopter was deployed amid police activity in the Stockwood area earlier this afternoon.

A man detained in Davids Road after a motorbike was found abandoned in an underpass.

In a statement, Avon & Somerset Police said: "Police have detained a man and seized a suspected stolen motorbike in Bristol.

"Officers were responding to reports of attempted motorbike thefts in the City Centre when a motorcycle failed to stop in Hartcliffe Way at about 12.50pm today, Tuesday 18 March.

"Patrolling officers supported by specialist road policing officers and the National Police Air Service helicopter found a motorcycle abandoned in the Sturminster Road underpass.

"A man was detained in nearby Davids Road.

"Enquiries are underway to establish the rightful ownership of the motorbike, a red and black Honda motorcycle. "
