UK's first breast density clinic opens in Bristol to address hidden breast cancer risk
New clinic offers advanced technology for measuring breast density
Bristol has become the hub for a groundbreaking initiative in breast cancer screening with the opening of the UK's first dedicated breast density clinic.
The clinic, launched today, aims to empower women with vital information about their breast health using advanced Mi~Scan technology.
This technology provides measurement and monitoring of breast density, which affects approximately 40% of women over 40 years and is a known risk factor for breast cancer.
Dense breast tissue can obscure tumours on mammograms, making detection challenging, yet awareness about its implications remains low.
Recent research highlights that 88% of women are unaware of their breast density, and 53% do not know how it affects cancer detection efforts.
In contrast, the United States has recently mandated that mammography reports include assessments of breast density.
“For too long, breast density has been an unknown for many women," said Adrian Waller, CEO of Micrima, "despite the role it can play in both cancer risk and detection.
"Our aim is to give women access to clear, personalised information so they can better understand their own breast health and make informed decisions with confidence.”
TV personality Briony May Williams shared her experience with the technology: “My screening was a positive experience from start to finish.
