As the UK endures its third heatwave of the year, Bath & North East Somerset Council is intensifying efforts to adapt services for increasingly severe weather conditions.

With temperatures predicted to climb to 35°C, amber heat health alerts have been issued across the west country.

The council's Climate Resilient Council Update report, outlines crucial steps to mitigate the growing climate impacts on local services.

The report identifies significant risks and calls for measures such as integrating climate resilience into decision-making, tracking the climate's effect on services, and establishing more resilient workplaces.

Councillor Sarah Warren, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Sustainable Bath and North East Somerset, said: “Climate change is already affecting our services and communities, and the impacts are becoming more frequent and more severe.

“We need to act now to make sure our services are resilient, protect vulnerable residents and avoid higher costs in the future.

“We’re taking practical steps to build that resilience, but we know we need to go further and faster.

“Cutting emissions remains essential, but we must also prepare for the impacts that are already happening. Acting early means we can reduce risks and protect residents.”
