A community event taking place today in Banwell, North Somerset, celebrates the legacy of Fiona Braidwood, known as Fi, who tragically lost her life in a car accident ten years ago.

Fi, a 17-year-old student at Churchill Academy, had aspirations for a bright future which were tragically cut short. Following her passing, her family and friends established Fi’s Enrichment Education Support (FEES) Fund to help remove financial barriers for children and young people eager to learn new skills.

Since its inception, the charity has raised £58,000 to fund various activities, including music lessons, sports coaching, and drama schools, aimed at nurturing talents and building confidence among young people from families where money is tight.

Vicki, Fi’s mum, said: “An outpouring of love came from the community together with a momentum, for it felt important, to all those that were missing her, that her sparkle, spirit and memory could be held close and remain present.”

Raising Awareness for Organ Donation

An important aspect of Fi's legacy is her role as a multiple organ donor, which saved four lives.

The FEES Fund promotes discussions about organ donation, encouraging people to make their wishes known.

Dr Ian Thomas, Clinical Lead for Organ Donation at Southmead Hospital Bristol, noted the importance of organ donation: “Organ Donation is the ultimate gift that one human being can give to another.”

Today, community members are invited to gather at Banwell Scout Hut for coffee and cake, to learn about Fi's legacy, how to apply for FEES Fund grants, and get involved in future fundraising events.
