Avon and Somerset Police urge caution after impersonation scam found

Avon and Somerset Police have issued a warning to the public after reports of fraudsters impersonating police officers in telephone scams.

The scammers are calling individuals, pretending to be police officers, and attempting to extract personal and financial information from unsuspecting victims.

The fraudulent callers can seem convincing and may use authentic-sounding techniques to persuade individuals of their legitimacy.

Avon and Somerset Police have emphasised that officers will never ask for personal bank details or request money over the phone.

They urge anyone receiving such calls to hang up immediately and not to disclose any information.

Superintendent Kerry Paterson, from Avon and Somerset Police, advises the public to remain vigilant against such scams.

"Fraudsters are using increasingly sophisticated methods to prey on individuals, and it's crucial for the public to be aware and protect themselves," Superintendent Paterson said.

The police advise verifying the caller’s identity by arranging to visit a local police station or contacting the non-emergency police number, 101.

Victims or those targeted by such scams are encouraged to report incidents to Action Fraud via their website or by calling 0300 123 2040.
