Man admits robbing petrol stations at knife-point

A 34-year-old man has admitted robbing two petrol stations in the Scottish Borders at knife-point - less than a fortnight apart.
Wayne Todd targeted Morrisons in Earlston on December the 29th and Dalgleish’s garage in Galashiels on January 11th, escaping with a quantity of cash on both occasions.
He also stole a car and mobile phone from Gattonside Toll, and attempted to rob a Chinese takeaway in Langlee.
The incident at Fei Wong in Marigold Bank took place the same night Todd robbed the garage in nearby Melrose Road while brandishing a knife which, according to police at the time, left a member of staff shaken.
He demanded cash from a woman working there while in possession of the weapon. And, he did so, having been released on bail after being arrested in connection with the earlier raid, in which he assaulted a member of staff.

On December 30th, Todd also turned up at the home of a 78-year-old woman in Galashiels during the hours of darkness and pretended he needed help.
He pled guilty to all seven charges - including behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by attending at the property in Kenilworth Avenue, and possession of a knife.

Sentence has been deferred at Selkirk Sheriff Court for three weeks for background reports.
The case is due to recall at Jedburgh Sheriff Court on July 28th, and Todd - who is described as a prisoner in Edinburgh - has been remanded in custody meantime.
Sheriff Peter Paterson warned him a prison sentence is "highly likely".
