'Despicable!' Staff at historic home left stumped after sundial 'stolen'

It's described as one of the finest 18th-century Palladian country homes in Britain.

But staff at Paxton House in Berwickshire have been left stumped after a sandstone sundial disappeared from its garden.

It's believed to have been stolen over the weekend.

The Scottish Borders visitor attraction is appealing to the public for help to find it.

A spokesperson said: "We are shocked to report that our lovely sandstone sundial next to the Apple Yard by our Edinburgh Window has been stolen over the weekend 😭

"As a charitable trust we work extremely hard to look after our estate for visitors to enjoy and actions like this are incredibly heartbreaking 💔

"If you have any information about its whereabouts please contact us directly 🙏 "

Commenting on the appeal, one supporter described the theft as "despicable".

Another said: "Why do people have do this? It must have been very heavy."

A third added: "It just beggars belief what people will steal nowadays!"
