A court has heard a Kelso woman threatened to kill her neighbour and dumped the carcass of a dead squirrel on her doorstep, after taking a dislike to her.

Annette Gardner also banged on the doors and windows of the property during the incidents in April and May this year.

The 62-year-old pled guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.

When quizzed by police about the dead squirrel, she replied: "Ha ha, I did that." And she added: "I hate her, she stinks".

Gardner was handed a six month home curfew, which means she must stay at home between the hours of 7pm and 7am.

Sheriff Peter Paterson said the sentence was a direct alternative to custody, given her previous record.

Gardner has also been banned from attempting to approach or contact the complainer for two years.
