A car and a quad bike have been extensively damaged in a barn blaze in the Scottish Borders.

The incident - which unfolded around 8.15pm on Saturday night - is the second suspicious fire at the same address in Sharplaw Road, Jedburgh in less than a week.

Police say it's lucky no-one was injured - and officers are now appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Detective Constable Joe Carmichael, from Police Scotland, said: "Extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish more details on the exact circumstances surrounding these fires and why the farm building has been targeted twice.

"Luckily no-one has been injured, however the consequences could have been much more serious."

The weekend blaze came just hours after police issued a public appeal for information following a fire in a neigbouring building around 8.20pm on Tuesday.

DC Carmichael said: “I’d also like to ask drivers with dash-cams who were travelling on Sharplaw Road or in Jedburgh itself on the evening of Tuesday and Saturday (September 23rd and 27th) to please review their footage, as they may have captured something which would assist our investigation.

"If you were in the area on Tuesday or Saturday evening and saw anything suspicious or out of the ordinary, please come forward.

"If you have any information that may assist our investigation, please call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3102 of September 27th. Alternatively, please contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained."
