On the way to the showpiece game, his side defeated Musselburgh, Peebles, Melrose and Kelso before setting up a final showdown where they showed their class and won in style with Freddie Owsley, Brent Jackson, Isaac Coates all scoring tries.

Future Scotland captain Greig Laidlaw was part of the last Thistles team to win the tournament in 2008.

Earlier, Watsonians players wore the number 13 on the front of their shirts for their tie against Kelso, as a special tribute to former player Scott Hastings who died last weekend.

The 61-year-old - who earned 65 caps for his country and was also represented the Lions - captained the Edinburgh side to victory in the comptition - at the birthplace of rugby Sevens - in 1996.
