Police probe launched after vandals cause more than £5,000 worth of damage to council property

Vandals have caused more than £5,000 worth of damage to property at Scottish Borders Council headquarters in Newtown St Boswells - including smashing more than 40 windows.
Police are appealing for information following a series of incidents in the Sprouston Road area since the start of the school summer holidays.
The latest was reported around 9pm on Wednesday, July 23rd.
Youths were also seen striking the nearby bus stop days earlier, when the sound of glass bottles could also be heard being smashed.
The neighbouring Community Wing has also been targeted.

Constable John Murray, from the Selkirk Community Policing Team, said: “This damage is a deliberate and re-occurring act to the council estate and is amounting to a significant amount of money.
“I would urge anyone in the local community who has noticed anyone acting suspiciously in the area over the past month to speak to police. Additionally, if you have any private CCTV close to the area, please get in touch.”
