Last updated 3rd Nov 2026
Police have named a man who died following a three-vehicle crash in the Scottish Borders.
Peter Brown, who was known as Richard, was driving a Ford Focus on the A6089 just north of Gordon shortly before 6pm last Tuesday (October 27th) when it was involved in a collision with a Toyota Hilux and a Tesla Model S.
Emergency services, including an air ambulance, were quickly scrambled but the 43-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a statement, released through the Police Scotland, Mr Brown’s family have paid tribute to the “gentle, kind, loving soul”.
They say he “will be deeply missed by his heartbroken parents, wider family and many friends.”
The driver of the Toyota was taken to Borders General Hospital, while the driver of the Tesla - both males - did not require hospital treatment.
The road - which links the A697 at Whiteburn with Kelso - was closed for several hours while police examined the scene, and the wreckage was cleared, with motorists advised to find alternative routes.
Mr Brown’s loved ones add: “The family wishes to thank the emergency services who attended the scene of the crash and everything that they did to try and save Richard.
“The caring support of Police Scotland Traffic division has been exceptional.
“The help of motorists who assisted is also greatly appreciated.”
Police are reiterating their appeal for information, and urging anyone in the area at the time with dash-cam footage which has captured anything that could assist to contact them.
Sergeant Barry Sommerville said: “Our thoughts remain with Richard's family and friends at this difficult time.
“Our enquiries into the circumstances remain ongoing and I would again appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash or has any information that may assist to contact us.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2708 of Tuesday, October 27th.”
