Building materials estimated to be worth over £10,000 have been stolen during a break-in at the former High School in Peebles.

Thieves swooped on Springwood Road sometime between December 19th and January 5th.

The site has been empty since pupils moved into a new neighbouring campus in November - six years after the original building was badly damaged in a blaze.

Detective Constable Kate Loughrey, from Police Scotland, said: "We are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area during this time, or who has any information that could assist with our enquiries.

"If you think you can help, please contact us on 101, quoting incident number 0993 of January 5th, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

Meanwhile, investigations are continuing after thieves stole thousands of pounds in cash following break-ins to two hotels in Peeblesshire in one night.

Around 1.20am on Friday, January 2nd, two men entered the Park Hotel in Innerleithen Road, Peebles, and stole a four-figure sum.

And then, less than an hour later, the culprits - both believed to be in their 60s - raided the Traquair Arms Hotel in Innerleithen - seven miles away.
