A purse containing a three-figure sum of cash, a radio and tools have been stolen after two vans were targeted by thieves in Newcastleton.

The thefts took place in the South Hermitage Street and Douglas Square areas on Saturday (May 23rd).

It's the latest in a series of thefts reported in the area - with a horse box, SUV and two quad bikes among the items taken during raids on three farms overnight on Wednesday (May 27th).

Two cars were also broken into while parked at Manor Bridge, near Peebles, the same day.

Police are appealing for information.

Detective Constable Megan Shiel, from Police Scotland, said: “Our enquiries into these thefts are ongoing and we are asking anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area to get in touch.

“We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have dash-cam footage from the Douglas Square or Hermitage Street areas on Saturday, as it may contain footage which could assist with our investigation.

“I’d also encourage people to ensure their vehicles are locked and secure and that valuables are kept out of sight.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1271 of May 25th.
