A 58-year-old man has died following a motorcycle crash in the Scottish Borders.

Emergency services were called out to the one-vehicle incident on the B6357 near Saughtree after the alarm was raised around 3.25pm on Sunday.

But the man, who had been riding a KTM motorbike, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The tragedy unfolded just hours before the speed limit on the road was reduced from 60 to 50mph as part of an 18-month trial aimed at reducing the number of serious and fatal crashes, although it's unclear if speed was a factor on this occasion.

It's the second fatal crash involving a motorcyclist in the Borders in as many months.

On March 19th, a 70-year-old man died after his bike was involved in a collision with a lorry and a car on the A68 at Earlston.

The road was closed for more than five hours while police examined the scene of the latest incident, and the wreckage was cleared.

Officers are this morning appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Sergeant Michael Shillington, from Police Scotland, said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who died. Our enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.

“I am appealing for anyone who saw the crash who hasn’t already spoken to officers to get in touch.

“I would also ask anyone who was in the area at the time and may have dash-cam footage which could assist to contact us.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting reference 2040 of April 6th, 2025.
