Man, 69, injured in microlight crash in the Scottish Borders

A 69-year-old man has been injured following a microlight crash in the Scottish Borders.

Emergency services – including an air ambulance - were scrambled to the scene after the alarm was raised shortly before 8pm last night (Wednesday).

The aircraft was found on its side at Lempitlaw Farm Airfield near Kelso with the pensioner trapped inside.

The man was the only person within the aircraft at the small, private grass airfield, and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said he was conscious and breathing with leg injuries.

Rescuers freed the man’s leg after removing fibre glass panels.

Police confirmed that they had been called out to the airfield on Wednesday evening.

The force said the matter had been referred to the Air Accident Investigation Branch.

The Scottish Ambulance Service said one person had been flown to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.
