Family pay tribute to teenager 'who loved the outdoors' as sea search comes to an end
The family of a teenager who is believed to have died at sea off the Northumberland coast have paid a heartfelt tribute to their “much-loved” son, brother and friend, as police confirm the search to find him has now come to an end.
Michael Henry, who's 19 and from the Rothbury area, had been kayaking with another man near Boulmer last week when it was reported the small craft capsized.
While one of the men was able to swim to a buoy before being rescued by the Coastguard, a search was launched to find the missing teen.
Police received a report via HM Coastguard just after 9.15pm on July 7th of a man being in the water.
Despite a major operation involving emergency services and partner agencies, officers have confirmed search activity has now concluded.
Paying tribute, the teenager's family said: “We would like to thank everyone for all their love, kindness and support now and throughout Michael’s life; it was that love and kindness that made him the marvellous person he was.
“Michael was a much-loved son, brother, grandson, nephew, team-mate and friend; a keen sportsman who loved the outdoors."
The statement, released by the police, revealed the teenager was preparing to go travelling this summer and hoping to start university.
“Michael will be forever in our thoughts, and we will miss him," it added.
“Our thanks go to the emergency services and everyone who is helping to search for Michael.”

Northumbria Police have thanked all those involved in the search for their efforts.

“We know the impact this news will have upon his loved ones and the wider community.”
