Two men have died after the cars they were driving were involved in a collision near Floors Castle in Kelso.
Emergency services were called out to the A6089, just north of the town - near its junction with the B6364 Stichill road - around 6.50pm last night (Wednesday).
But the drivers of a green Ford Fiesta and a silver Nissan Leaf - aged 35 and 42 - were pronounced dead at the scene.
The road was closed for more than six hours while police examined the Edinburgh Road and the wreckage was cleared. It reopened around 1.30am this morning.
Officers are appealing for information.

Sergeant Jamie Humpage said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of both the men at this extremely difficult time, and our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this collision.
“I am appealing to anyone who was driving in the area at the time or saw either vehicle prior to the crash to please come forward and speak with officers.
“I’d also ask that those with dash-cam footage or CCTV please review this to see if it has captured anything that could assist with our investigation.”
