A 78-year-old man from the Scottish Borders has pled guilty to being in possession of more than 100 indecent images of children as young as two.

Jedburgh Sheriff Court today (Tuesday) heard police, acting on information, attended the Kelso home of Alexander Lumgair in April last year.

Eighty images showing children between the ages of two and 12-years of age were found on a laptop, while a further 50 images showing children between the ages of six and 14 were found on a USB stick.

Some of the images were described as being in Category A, which is the most serious.

Lumgair - who also admitted taking, or permiting to be taken, indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of children - committed the offences at his home between April 2nd and 9th last year.

Sentence has been deferred at Jedburgh Sheriff Court for background reports, and he has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register meantime.
