It has hosted some of the biggest concerts in the Scottish Borders in recent years - with performances from the likes of Michael Bublé, Skerryvore and Del Amitri attracting crowds from across the country.

Bryan Adams also shot a special music video at Floors Castle ahead of his performance in Kelso, alongside Feeder, in 2022.

In addition, thousands of revellers attended the Proclaimers gig at the Borders Events Centre - on the opposite bank of the River Tweed - the following year.

But, while the influx of visitors is being welcomed by local traders and accommodation providers alike, the impact on surrounding roads is driving some residents round the bend.

That wasn't helped by the cancellation of a direct bus service to the Faithless gig earlier this summer.

However, it's hoped a new park and ride scheme could be set up to ease pressure on the town in future.

Local councillor Tom Weatherston is due to present the idea to Thursday's meeting of Scottish Borders Council on behalf of Conservative colleague Simon Mountford.

His motion, which the council is being asked to support, reads: “Council welcomes the popularity of live music and cultural events at Floors Castle but notes that the consequent increase in the number of visitors to the town can have a negative impact on car parking availability.

“Officers are, therefore, requested to explore the feasibility of establishing a park and ride scheme in Kelso particularly for use in conjunction with live events being held at Floors Castle.

“Council requests that officers engage with representatives of the Roxburgh Estate and the Border Events Centre.

“This initiative aims to support sustainable travel, ease congestion during peak periods and events, and improve accessibility to key destinations in and around Kelso.

“Officers are asked to assess potential locations, operational considerations, and partnership opportunities, and to report back to council with findings and recommendations.”
