All roads lead to the Scottish Borders this weekend for the return of the Jim Clark Rally.

130 cars are set to line-up for the ceremonial start in Duns at 5.45pm on Friday (May 23rd).

Last year, a police officer following the safety car went viral on social media after taking a tumble at the Langton water crossing.

Chairman Dan Wright revealed an extra recovery vehicle is being put on standby at the viewing point, near Gavinton, ahead of competitors return this weekend:

While last year's event was staged over 88 miles of roads, this weekend's competition will see that extended to more than 100.

As well as the return of the Langton water splash, a new Polwarth stage has been added.

Flying the flag for local honours are three Duns-based drivers – Euan Thorburn, Garry Pearson, and Dale Robertson – all competing in cutting-edge Rally2 machinery.

But points leader William Creighton and last year’s Jim Clark Rally winner Keith Cronin are both missing - Creighton due to family commitments, and Cronin after a heavy crash at the Rally of the Lakes. Their absence leaves the door wide open for a new winner on the top step.

Starting and finishing in Duns on Friday and Saturday, May 23rd and 24th, the Jim Clark Rally - named after the late F1 star, who lived locally - will once again be followed by the Reivers Rally on Sunday, May 25th.

The weekend of racing action will take in sights around Westruther, Scott's View and Eccles.

Berwickshire councillor Mark Rowley said: "It's going to be a fantastic weekend, and brings in a huge amount of economic benefit." And he added: "We're looking forward to welcoming lots of spectators."
