Former tourist information centre in Jedburgh given new lease of life

A former tourist information centre in Jedburgh has been given a new lease of life after reopening as a community hub.
The prominent building - opposite the town's Abbey - has stood empty since VisitScotland moved out in October 2024.
Now local volunteers have transformed the former iCentre into a space aimed at supporting both residents and visitors.
Run by the Jedburgh and District Community News Group, the hub will provide tourist information, support for local community groups, as well as space for independent crafters to showcase and sell their work.
In addition, the building will serve as a drop-off point for Jedburgh Churches Foodbank, as well as offering free period products and a "bra bank" for those who need them.
A multi-purpose community room, kitchen and meeting facilities will also be available for hire by local groups.
The takeover has been made possible through a licence-to-occupy agreement with VisitScotland while the group pursues longer-term funding options.
Trustee, Dr Simon Watkin said the project is about ensuring the building remained a valuable asset for the town.
"Jedburgh really is one of the gateways to Scotland and welcomes tens of thousands of tourists from home and abroad each year," he added:
"We want the building and what it is used for to help attract not just tourists, but also local people and people from all over the Borders and Scotland more generally."
The community hub is being staffed by volunteers and is open seven days a week from 10am until 2pm.
An official opening ceremony is planned for June 28th, when Jethart Callant Robbie Thomson will cut the ribbon.
