Police dismantle cannabis farm in centre of Jedburgh
Last updated 6th Nov 2025
Police have begun dismantling a cannabis farm unearthed in a disused building in the centre of Jedburgh.
Silver ventilation ducts, wiring and a number of plug sockets have been dumped in skips outside the former Royal British Legion in the town's High Street, as officers in forensic suits clear the 8,000 square foot building.
A 27-year-old man arrested in connection with the discovery on Tuesday night has now been charged and is due to appear at Jedburgh Sheriff Court later.
The building - which had been advertised for sale - is believed to have been empty for almost three years.
It remains taped off this afternoon, and the High Street remains busy with shoppers despite the pungent smell of cannabis in the air.
It's the latest in a series of illegal cultivations discovered in the Scottish Borders in recent times.
In February, we reported police had seized £9.5 million pounds worth of the drug in the region in just 16 months.
22 people were arrested in connection with 12 separate grows, between July 2023 and November last year, and more than half of them - 14 - were Albanian.
Locals say there has been a strong smell of cannabis in the town for a number of weeks.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 11.35pm on Tuesday (November 4th), officers attended a disused premises in the High Street area of Jedburgh.
“A cannabis cultivation was discovered within and officers remain in attendance.
“A 27-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection. He is due to appear at Jedburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday.
“Enquiries are ongoing.”
