Woman dies after being 'struck by a number of vehicles' on A1

A woman has died after being struck by a number of vehicles on the A1 in the Scottish Borders.

Emergency services raced to the scene, just north of the Grantshouse turn-off, after the alarm was raised shortly before midnight last night (Thursday).

But the 50-year-old pedestrian was pronounced dead on their arrival.

The busy cross-border route was closed for more than eight hours to allow for investigations to be carried out and re-opened around 8.30am this morning.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

There were no reports of other injuries.

Sergeant Dave Waddell, from Police Scotland, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who died at this difficult time.

“Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash and hasn’t already spoken to officers to get in touch.

“I would also appeal to anyone who was in the area and may have dash cam footage which could assist to contact us.”
