Fire rips through second home in Tweed Valley in less than three weeks

A second home in the Tweed Valley has been gutted by fire in less than three weeks.
Emergency services raced to the scene of the latest incident, near Walkerburn, after the alarm was raised shortly before 1pm this afternoon (Friday).
Six appliances were called out to Glenbenna throughout the day, in addition to a number of specialist resources - including a height appliance.
And three crews remained dampening down at 8pm this evening.
The back road between Walkerburn and Peel was closed to through traffic while the fire, which is believed to have spread to a neighbouring property, was brought under control.

It's the latest in a series of blazes in the Scottish Borders, and comes at a time when the region's fire cover is under review.

On May 31st, five appliances were called out to a fire which destroyed the roof of a house in nearby Cardrona - which was also visible from the main road.
In April, a 65-year-old woman died following a house fire at Faughhill farm on the outskirts of Bowden.
In February, a 73-year-old woman died, along with her two dogs, following a blaze at her home in Balnagowan Road in Selkirk.
And, in March, a warning was issued about the dangers of lithium batteries after a home in Jedburgh was left "ruined" following a fire.
