Police investigating a report of a serious sexual assault near the swimming pool in Galashiels say enquiries are "ongoing".

The entrance to Gala Policies was taped off by officers responding to an incident around 8.10pm on Friday night.

The woodland walk, which links the town with the Balmoral housing estate, is popular with dog walkers and children attending the nearby secondary school.

It was sealed off for more than 24 hours while forensic officers examined the scene, but has since reopened.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 8.10pm on Friday, April 4th, we received a report of a serious sexual assault on a 38-year-old woman, which took place in the Scott Park Policies area of Galashiels."

And on Monday morning they added: "Enquiries are ongoing."
