First images emerge of new pool in Galashiels as work on school nears completion
Last updated 11th Nov 2025
The first images have emerged of the new swimming pool in Galashiels, as construction of the town's secondary nears completion.
The current pool in Livingstone Place is being flattened to make way for a car park for the £55 million campus.
The new six-lane 25-metre pool, which includes a changing village and viewing gallery, is accessed via the school's public reception area.
Its deep end will be able to support diving - something the current pool does not.
Although PE classes can access it, the new fully accessible pool - which boasts views over Scott Park - will be open to the public from early morning to evening time.
The development also includes the creation of a separate hydro-therapy pool, and both will be operated by local leisure trust Live Borders.
A spokesperson said: "It has been filled for the first time and will have many more empty and refresh fills to ensure it’s operational. This fill is called a 'dirty wash'. It flushes out any debris. That’s why the water is green!"

More details over when the pool will open and how the public can book sessions is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
It comes as the new High School in Peebles opens its doors to pupils for the first time this morning (Tuesday).
The £61 million campus replaces the old secondary which was badly damaged in a fire six years ago.
Speaking to Greatest Hits Radio, Tweeddale councillor Julie Pirone - Scottish Borders Council's Executive Member for Education, Youth Development and Lifelong Learning - said: "This is a tremendous day for Peebles.
"This new school is absolutely iconic and I'm quite sure when everybody walks through the doors today they will see that it will have been worth the wait."
