Cyclist in 'serious' condition in hospital following collision in Galashiels

A 24-year-old man has been taken to hospital with "serious injuries", after the bike he was riding was involved in a collision with a van in Galashiels.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident in the town's Tweed Road shortly before 5am this morning.

The road was blocked for a time but has since been cleared.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4.50am on Tuesday, we received a report of a crash involving a van and a cyclist on Tweed Road, Galashiels. 

“Emergency services attended, and the cyclist, a 24-year-old man, was taken to hospital for treatment to what are described as serious injuries. 

“Officers remain in attendance and enquiries are ongoing.”
