Tools stolen following break-in to vans

A large number of tools have been reported stolen after two vans were broken into in Galashiels in one night.

Police are appealing for information following the thefts which happened sometime overnight on Monday.

It follows a similar incident in Newtown St Boswells over the weekend.

Officers are paticularly keen to trace a man seen in the area around the time who may be able to help with their enquiries.

He was wearing a black jacket and black baseball cap, and may have been riding a bike.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Between 10pm on Monday, and 7am on Tuesday, two vehicles parked on Balmoral Terrace and Balmoral Avenue were broken into and tools stolen.

"A man wearing a black jacket and black baseball cap was seen in the area around the time who may be able to assist with our enquiries.

"Anyone with information, or who recognises the description of the man, is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 0606 of January 27th.

"If you have relevant CCTV, doorbell or dash-cam footage, please also bring this to our attention."
