Scottish Water says it’s working to repair a burst water main in Eyemouth which left a a number of its customers without supplies overnight.

A picture shared online shows flooding at the entrance to Acredale Industrial Estate last night (Monday).

The fault is affecting customers in the TD14 postcode, with some households experiencing no water, reduced pressure or discoloured supplies.

Some people reported their supplies being restored in the early hours of this morning.

Scottish Water predicted the fault would be fixed by 11am, but later announced "due to unforeseen circumstances, the repair is taking longer than initially expected" - with around 70 properties still without water around 2pm.

A spokesperson for the water company said: "We were made aware of a burst on an 8-inch water main serving around 1,800 properties in Eyemouth.

"The burst was located shortly after midnight and our teams immediately began isolating the main to prevent flooding and minimise disruption to customers.

"To maintain supplies to as many properties as possible, we rezoned the network and mobilised road tankers to support affected areas.

"Around 70 properties are currently without water while repairs continue. We expect the repair to be finished within the next hour, with supplies returning to affected customers shortly afterwards.

"We would like to thank customers for their patience and understanding while our teams work to restore normal service as quickly as possible."

The spokesperson added: "We understand how frustrating this delay can be and sincerely apologise for the inconvenience it may cause.

"Once the repair is complete, water service will be gradually restored to affected customers. Please be aware that it may take some time for water pressure to return to normal levels.

"We have temporary network alterations in place to keep the majority of customers in supply during the ongoing works, although some customers may still experience no water, reduced pressure or discolouration.

"If you experience brown water, we advise you to run your cold-water kitchen tap at a reduced pressure until this runs clear.

"Do not run any other taps or use any water appliances whilst doing so and follow the same process with any other taps affected once the water is clear from your cold-water kitchen tap."
