A 24-year-old woman who threw a dead bird at a female police officer called to her home in Duns has today (Monday) been fined a total of £320.

Jennifer Fraser-Orr also threw a blob of congealed blood at a male officer, and spat towards him.

In addition to the two assaults, she also pled guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting and swearing, and smearing blood on the walls of the property in Gourlay's Wynd on April 29th last year.

Sentence had previously been deferred at Jedburgh Sheriff Court for good behaviour.

Threatening behaviour

A 46-year-old man who chased two teenagers in Hawick with a broken bottle has been fined £400.

Jedburgh Sheriff Court heard Darren Gullen had been drinking in the town centre, when he confronted the youngsters - aged 14 and 15 - on June the 24th last year.

He asked them: "What are you f***ing getting cheeky for?"

Fiona Hamilton, prosecuting, said the children had replied they were not, and that they hadn't said anything to him.

The court heard Gullen, who lives in Hawick, came down steps towards a bus stop, clutching the broken bottle, and chased after them.

The youngsters fled in the direction of the Morrisons supermarket and, when police arrested him, he replied: "Fair enough. I just want to go home, I don't give a s***."

Gullen pled guilty to a charge of threatening or abusive behaviour.

His solicitor, Liam Alexander, explained his client is a long-term alcoholic who had drunk more than normal.

But he added that Gullen didn't think he would have reacted without any provocation.

In addition to the fine, he was also ordered to pay a £20 victim surcharge.

Cocaine seizure

A court's heard a 19-year-old man was caught with cocaine worth up to £350 after police searched his home in Eyemouth.

Today, Luke Dougal - who lives in the town's Home Street - has pled guilty to a charge of possession of the Class A drug, following the raid on July the 24th last year.

Sentence has been deferred at Jedburgh Sheriff Court until next month for a personal appearance.

Jailed

A 24-year-old man who stole a VW transporter following a break-in at a home in Coldingham over two years ago has today been jailed for 18 months.

Jedburgh Sheriff Court heard Andrew Miller - who gave an address in Dalkeith - is already serving a 64 month sentence in relation to other matters, and the earliest he can apply for parole is July next year.

He was caught after his DNA was found on the gear stick of another car, parked in the same drive, which three men had been seen attempting to take but which had failed to start.

Petition

A 52-year-old man's appeared in court in the Borders - charged with assault to severe injury, permanent disfigurement and permanent impairment.

Stuart McHutchison, who gave an address in Roxburghshire, is also accused of offences under the Domestic Abuse (Scotland) Act, and Children and Young Persons (Scotland) Act.

He made no plea to all three charges when he appeared in private at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.

He was committed for further examination and released on bail.
