An investigation's been launched after thieves raided two council depots in the Scottish Borders in one night.

Equipment and vehicles, believed to be worth a five-figure sum, were taken in the break-ins at Hillview Industrial Estate in Coldstream and Station Road in Duns.

It happened sometime overnight on Wednesday, and police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

It comes less than three weeks after a High Street premises in Coldstream was broken into during the early hours of the morning.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Enquiries are ongoing.”

It's not the first time Scottish Borders Council has been targeted.

In June last year, two tipper trucks and high-value gardening equipment were stolen during a break-in at a local authority depot in Hawick, with the total cost to the council estimated to be more than £100,000.

A spokesperson for SBC said: “We can confirm that two depots in the Berwickshire area experienced break-ins on the night of Wednesday, July 16th, with the theft of some plant and vehicles.

"Investigations are ongoing at this early stage.”
