Last updated 22nd Sep 2026
A man has been charged in connection with a series of break-ins in the Scottish Borders.
Vehicles, plant machinery and tools were stolen during the raids in the Reston, Duns and Chirnside areas on the morning of August 3rd.
Police Scotland says a JCB, trailer and several vehicles — with a combined value of around £81,000 — have since been recovered in Berwick-upon-Tweed.
A vehicle believed to have been involved in the thefts was later spotted by officers from Cumbria Constabulary.
A pursuit followed, before a man was arrested and remanded in custody in England.
Officers from Police Scotland’s Scottish Borders Proactive Team subsequently visited the man and charged him in connection with multiple thefts.
A report, detailing the circumstances, has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
It's prompted a reminder from police to the public to take steps to protect their property, machinery and livestock.
