Casualty rescued from rocks as sun-seekers converge on coast
A person with a suspected broken hip has been rescued from rocks near Bamburgh Beach following a multi-agency emergency response.
Volunteers from the RNLI's Seahouses lifeboat station were called out at around 1.30pm yesterday (Tuesday) after a casualty fell at the beauty spot, south of Bamburgh Beach.
The D-Class inshore lifeboat was launched at the request of Humber Coastguard, with Seahouses and Berwick Coastguard Rescue Teams already at the scene alongside paramedics from the North East Ambulance Service.
After arriving at Greenhill Rocks within minutes, lifeboat crews worked with coastguard teams and ambulance personnel to assess the casualty. It was decided the safest option was to transport the patient by lifeboat back to Seahouses Harbour.
Coastguard teams carried the casualty across difficult terrain to the water's edge, while paramedics provided additional pain relief before the patient was transferred onto the lifeboat.
The casualty was monitored throughout the journey back to harbour before being handed into the care of waiting ambulance crews.
The RNLI has praised the teamwork between all emergency services involved.
A spokesperson said: "This incident demonstrates the excellent multi-agency working that we train to accomplish.
"We wish the casualty a speedy recovery and are glad we were able to play a vital role in this rescue."
