Motorists on the A7 are being warned of disruption ahead as resurfacing works get underway.

The road will be closed between Selkirk and Hawick for 12 nights - between 7.30pm and 6am - starting tonight (Monday).

A 13-mile diversion route will be in place via the A698, A68 and A699, which is expected to add around 21 minutes to affected journeys.

The works will continue until Tuesday, March 17th, with no works taking place on Saturday or Sunday nights.

Access will be maintained for the emergency services at all times, while those living within the closure points will also be allowed access to their properties "when it is safe to pass through the work area".

The works are being managed by Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These works will see almost 1,200 metres of carriageway renewed approximately four kilometres south of Selkirk.

“It’s essential for the safety of road users and the workforce that we close the road while resurfacing takes place, however we’ll do this at night to minimise the impact.

“If you need to use this route during the works, our advice is to plan ahead and allow plenty of extra time for the diversion.

“We’re grateful to road users and local communities for their patience and understanding while we make these improvements.”

All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement in the event of adverse conditions.
