Driver, 36, dies and passenger in hospital with serious injuries following collision with HGV on A7

A 36-year-old man has died after the vehicle he was driving was involved in a collision with a lorry on the A7 north of Langholm.
Emergency services raced to the incident, near Briery Bank, after the alarm was raised around 11.35am yesterday (Tuesday).
But the driver of a green Toyota Hilux was pronounced dead at the scene.
His passenger, a 55-year-old man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Medical staff describe his condition as stable.
The driver of the white Scania HGV was not injured.
A section of the cross-border route between Hawick and Carlisle was closed for more than 12 hours while road traffic investigators examined the scene and the wreckage was cleared, with the road reopening shortly before midnight.
Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Sergeant Colin Ramage, of Police Scotland, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died in this crash, as well as the man who suffered serious injuries.
“We’re carrying out extensive enquiries to establish exactly what happened and I’d appeal to anyone with information or dash-cam footage to come forward.”
