A 39-year-old man has been arrested near Cockburnspath following a crash on the A1, which left a woman in hospital.

Emergency services were called to the incident near Torness shortly before 9pm last night (Friday), following reports of a collision involving a black Peugeot 207 and a Land Rover Discovery.

The driver of the Land Rover, a 38-year-old woman, was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.

But, according to police, the driver of the Peugeot left the scene on foot before emergency services arrived.

The cross-border route was blocked while a helicopter was seen scouring the area, and locals were advised not to open their doors.

He was later traced near Cockburnspath and arrested in connection with the incident.
