Three people taken to hospital following two-vehicle crash on A1 near Belford

Three people have been taken to hospital following a crash reportedly involving a car and a campervan on the A1 near Belford.
Emergency services were called to the scene after the alarm was raised just after 10am this morning (Monday).
It's the latest in a series of smashes on the cross-border route in Northumberland in recent weeks - prompting repeated calls for the road to be upgraded to dual carriageway.
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on the A1 in Belford at 10am on Monday.
"We dispatched three ambulance crews and one crew from our Hazardous Area Response Team.
"They assessed four patients in total and transported three to hospital - one to the RVI and two to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital (NSECH)."
The road was closed in both directions between Berwick and Denwick, with northbound traffic being diverted via Wooler and southbound traffic through Seahouses.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Just after 10am this morning (Monday), we received a report of a two-vehicle collision on the A1 at Belford – on the southbound carriageway.
“Emergency services are currently on scene.
“The road is closed in both directions. The A1 southbound carriageway is currently being diverted through Seahouses and Bamburgh.”
