Boy, 9, in serious condition after crash on A697 near Lauder

A nine-year-old boy is in a serious condition following a crash on the A697 near Lauder in the Scottish Borders.

Emergency services were called to the scene around 8.40pm on Friday after a white Toyota Alphard left the road between Houndslow and Whiteburn.

A 40-year-old woman and two boys, aged seven and nine, were taken to hospital for treatment. Medical staff have described the nine-year-old’s condition as serious.

The road was closed for a time to allow investigations to be carried out.

Police Scotland say enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the crash.

Sergeant Chris Bright from Road Policing said: “We are continuing our enquiries to ascertain the circumstances of the crash.

“I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident to contact us with any information. If you have dash-cam equipment, please check for any relevant images which could assist our enquiries.”
