Wolves sign veteran full-back Kieran Trippier in ambitious rebuild
35-year-old joins on two-year deal aiming for Premier League promotion
Wolves have made the first move in their summer transfer window by signing experienced full-back Kieran Trippier on a two-year deal.
The 35-year-old joins as a free agent following a highly successful four-year stint at Newcastle United.
During his time at St James' Park, Trippier played a pivotal role in elevating the Magpies from near-relegation to Champions League contenders.
He now arrives at Molineux with the goal of guiding Wolves back to the Premier League.
Born in Bury, Greater Manchester, Trippier started his career at Manchester City, moving through loan spells at Barnsley and Burnley before securing a permanent transfer which helped Burnley reach the Premier League in 2014.
His Premier League journey continued at Tottenham Hotspur, where he played in the 2019 Champions League final, earning him a call-up to the England national team.
With 54 caps for the Three Lions, Trippier stands out for his performances during Euro tournaments and scoring a memorable free-kick in the 2018 World Cup semi-final against Croatia.
His career also saw him succeed in Spain, capturing the La Liga title with Atlético Madrid in 2021 before returning to English football and joining Newcastle.
Nathan Shi, Wolves’ executive chairman, highlighted Trippier's attributes, stating,
"Kieran has performed at the very highest level, so we are delighted he has chosen Wolves for the next chapter of his journey."
Rob Edwards, head coach, shared his enthusiasm for the signing, indicating,
"Experience, leadership, resilient characters – that's what we’re going to need, and Tripps ticks every box."
Trippier's addition signals Wolves' ambition to compete at the top level, with technical director Matt Jackson noting the collaborative effort to bring Trippier to Molineux.
The former Newcastle defender is expected to make an immediate impact as he begins pre-season training with his new team.
