A woman in her 70s has died after being attacked by two dogs at a Wolverhampton residence.

Emergency services were called to Willis Pearson Avenue around 11:30 pm, but despite their efforts, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Due to the continued aggression displayed by the dogs, they were humanely destroyed by authorities.

A 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control and causing injury resulting in death.

The man also suffered hand injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Authorities are conducting further enquiries into the dogs involved, which are not believed to be a banned breed.

An investigation is in the early stages, with the scene remaining secured as detectives work to piece together the events leading to the tragedy.

Anyone with information related to the incident is urged to contact police.
