Firefighters tackle blaze at recycling yard in Wolverhampton
Crews were called to Horseley Fields just before 4.30am today (Mon 6 July)
A significant blaze has erupted at a recycling yard in Wolverhampton.
The fire at Cross Street in Horseley Fields was reported just before 4.25am and involves around 1,000 tonnes of recycling materials.
Eight fire crews, along with an aerial platform, initially responded, with a dditional resources, including a high volume pumping unit, deployed later .
The flames also spread to a large shed-like building and machinery located in the yard.
By 7.30am, firefighters say they were making good progress towards bringing the situation under control.
On-site staff have been assisting with the efforts by using a mechanical grabber to break up and move some of the recycling material.
As a precautionary measure, nearby roads have been closed to allow firefighting units and equipment to operate safely.
Residents and workers in the vicinity are advised to keep doors and windows closed to mitigate the effects of smoke.
