Wolverhampton man running 10 marathons in 10 days to raise awareness for men's mental health
Leigh Edwards is taking on a challenge to raise awareness of men's mental health- and he's calling on the community to get involved
Leigh Edwards, a QA Analyst from Wolverhampton, is running 10 marathons in 10 days and covering more than 260 miles. He's hoping to raise money for Mandem Meetup Wolves, a local mental health organisation.
The challenge begins on 1st June, where Leigh will set off from Molineux Stadium, the home of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
From the starting point, he will run a full marathon each day.
Leigh was inspired to take on the challenge after losing a close friend to poor mental health. He has also experienced personal struggles and battled auditory psychosis; which, at some points, left him feeling like he had no way out.
He tells us that running played a huge role in his recovery and now wants to use it to spark conversation that could help others:
"Men struggle. I think stepping out your comfort zone helps you understand yourself a little bit better and deeper. From doing this and going through my own traumas, I hope to inspire other men."
Leigh is encouraging local people to join him for part of the journey- whether it's to run alongside him for a few metres or even a whole marathon!
It's hoped to raise over £15,000 for Mandem Meetup Wolves, a non-profit group that provides safe, confidential spaces where men can talk to others who have been through similar experiences.
