Wolverhampton man jailed for shooting incident in city centre
22-year-old given 12-year sentence for wounding with firearm
A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for his involvement in a shooting in Wolverhampton city centre.
The shooting occurred at around 3:30pm on 12th October near the subway under A4150 on Peel Street when a 20-year-old male was shot in the leg.
He sustained serious leg injuries and was treated at the hospital, but fortunately survived the incident.
Following a thorough investigation by the Major Crime Unit, including reviewing CCTV footage, Tyriq Bingham from Tangmere Road was identified as responsible for the attack.
Bingham pleaded guilty in August to wounding with intent and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, leading to his sentencing on 11th September.
Detective Constable Joe Harris from the MCU stressed the importance of taking firm action against street violence, stating, "We will not tolerate violence on our streets."
This case forms part of Operation Target, a West Midlands initiative to tackle gun crime consistently.
