West Mercia Police is hoping to make match days safer for female supporters of Shrewsbury Town FC.

PC Chris Rayment, the club’s dedicated football officer, has been meeting with female fans to hear their concerns and improve safety and inclusivity at every game.

At a recent meeting with the club’s female supporters’ focus group, PC Rayment introduced himself and explained his role: connecting the police, the football club, and the community to make match days safer for everyone.

While fans raised few immediate issues, they highlighted potential risks on dark footpaths to the stadium and areas inside the venue where women often feel vulnerable.

To tackle these concerns, PC Rayment is working with the council, the club, and other partners to improve lighting, review CCTV coverage, and provide a clear, trusted point of contact for any issues.

He said:

“Feedback from supporters is vital.

"It helps us create a safer environment, not just at the stadium but on the journey there and back.”

The measures implemented will hope to give female fans confidence to attend games and engage fully in the community, reinforcing Shrewsbury Town FC as a welcoming, inclusive, and family-friendly club.
