Neighbourhood officers in Walsall have conducted proactive patrols in the town centre to address community concerns and showcase efforts to enhance safety.

The officers were joined by representatives from Walsall Council, Walsall Library, Community Protection, and the local organisation One Walsall in a recent 'walkabout' event.

During the patrols, officers shared steps taken in partnership with various agencies, such as installing CCTV cameras and bollards to tackle antisocial behaviour and youth violence.

The event also included discussions on collaboration between school liaison officers and the new Youth Hub in the town.

Another focal point was the application for a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO), aimed at curbing behaviours that cause nuisance, harassment, or distress in the community.

Sergeant Alex Backrath, neighbourhood policing manager for Walsall town centre, highlighted the walkabout's goal to build trust and confidence among residents, providing a platform for them to voice their concerns.

The event was also an opportunity to inform the public about reporting tools available from West Midlands Police and Walsall Council.
