Zafran Sajad, a 21-year-old from Walsall, has been sentenced to five years and three months in prison following a stabbing in Wednesbury.

Sajad was involved in an altercation outside a takeaway pizza shop in Market Place on 19th December 2023.

During the incident, Sajad, accompanied by three others, confronted a group of friends passing by.

A man from the group was stabbed several times but managed to escape and alert the authorities.

Sajad and his associates left the scene in a car.

The victim sustained serious injuries to his chest and arms.

Investigators identified Sajad's vehicle, which he had listed for sale at his workplace.

Initially, Sajad claimed he had no recollection of the event but later admitted to trying to defuse the situation.

Evidence, including a financial transaction at the pizza shop and CCTV footage, placed Sajad at the scene.

At Wolverhampton Crown Court on 18th February, he pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm, and his sentencing took place on 20th May.

Detective Constable Reece Markham, who investigated the case, said: "Sajad was clearly out to cause trouble that night. He had weapons in his car that were used during the awful attack on the man and his friends.

The victim didn’t know Sajad. He was just on a night out with friends when he sustained life-changing injuries at the hands of Sajad.

Violence like this anywhere is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. I hope this sentence brings some closure to the victim and shows those that commit violence the repercussions of what happens when you carry weapons and harm people."

The investigation was part of Operation Target, aimed at addressing serious and organised crime in the West Midlands.

Under this initiative, officers are dedicated to identifying, disrupting, and arresting those involved in guns, drugs, and other illegal activities.
