Walsall man jailed for coercive control of woman
Andrew Alcock was sentenced at Stafford Crown Court after pleading guilty
A man has been jailed for carrying out coercive and controlling behaviour against a woman earlier this year.
44-year-old Andrew Paul Alcock, of Brownhills in Walsall, was sentenced to two years and seven months in prison at Stafford Crown Court on Wednesday 21st October, after pleading guilty to engaging in coercive and controlling behaviour.
Staffordshire Police said Alcock had punched the victim in the face a number of times, loitered outside her address and demanded and checked her phone.
The force said that when the victim reported what she was going through to police, Alcock encouraged her to retract her statements and to harm herself.
Alcock was arrested after the victim reported the matter to police, according to the force.
He replied "no comment" in his police interview, but later admitted the offending in court, police said.
Alongside his prison sentence, Alcock was given a 10-year restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim, and was ordered to pay a surcharge of two hundred and twenty eight pounds.
Police reaction
PC John Grant, the officer in the case, said: "Alcock tormented the victim by continually harassing and controlling her.
"She showed great strength and determination in reporting what she had been through to us, and I hope his sentence provides her with some comfort as she continues to rebuild her life.
